Receive the maximum benefit for your skin. Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant promoted for its immune boosting properties as much as it is celebrated for its anti-aging potential. But that potential is only realized when Vitamin C is delivered to your cells in the most potent form and highest effective concentration. Hale Cosmeceuticals uses the purest form of Vitamin C, which is carefully processed to preserve and maximize its antioxidant capability that's the Hale Difference.
Vitamins are chemical compounds necessary for a number of chemical processes and metabolic functions. However, there are several derivatives of the chemical compounds classified as a vitamin, and some derivatives may themselves need to be converted to another form before it is useful in the body. Such is the case with Vitamin C. Pure vitamin C the form that is immediately useful to the body is L-Ascorbic Acid. In this form 100% of vitamin C is available for use by your cells. Derivatives of L-Ascorbic Acid include:
When these other forms of vitamin C are converted to L-Ascorbic Acid, they lose some of their potency. So, depending on the form, ounce for ounce, your cells are only getting between 13% and 95% of vitamin C. When used in skin care products, the form and its potency make a big difference. If a vitamin C serum contains ascorbyl palmitate, for instance, the formula can only deliver 40% of vitamin C's full potential. But Hale vitamin C products only contain the purest form of vitamin C: L-Ascorbic Acid.
Because the body cannot synthesize Vitamin C on its own, most vitamin C must be gotten through the diet. However, vitamin C may also be absorbed through the skin, and topical application is the most effective way to deliver vitamin C for skin repair and restoration. But there's a limit to how much vitamin C can actually be absorbed by the skin. Because vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin, excess amounts will just be pushed into the blood stream where it will be excreted from your system. Research shows that the highest concentration of vitamin C your body will use is 20%, so that's the highest concentration of vitamin C use in Hale formulations. We have two products with this maximum concentration:
These formulations are effective in helping aging and sun damaged skin recover some of its firmness and elasticity. We also have a lower concentration (5%) vitamin C formula C-Fine Milk Lotion which is primarily to help younger skin maintain its firm texture.
Vitamin C is an antioxidant, and antioxidants don't discriminate when it comes to neutralizing free radicals they begin their work immediately. That means that in an unstable formula, vitamin C will spend its antioxidant power neutralizing the free radicals in your moisturizer or serum, particularly if the formula is exposed to air, heat and light, which incite and speeds up the oxidation process. In order to keep vitamin C stable so that it doesn't start neutralizing anything until it reaches your skin, it must be delivered in a carefully formulated vehicle. Hale products are made using cold water processing to preserve vitamin C's antioxidizing potential, and our serums are carefully formulated, often with vitamin E, to minimize anti-oxidation happening in the jar but boost anti-oxidizing activity when applied to your skin.
Finding the vitamin C product that will be most effective for you starts with examining the quality of the vitamin C that goes into the product. All Hale products use the purest form of vitamin C, carefully formulated to preserve its restorative potential until it reaches your skin.
